FATE COSE FELICI!
《Quando dipingo, sono felice, sono in un altro mondo, mi dimentico di tutto.》 È questa la risposta che la pittrice algerina Baya Mahieddine (1931-1988) forniva a chi le chiedesse cosa ci fosse dietro la sua arte, dietro quel suo meraviglioso mondo a tinte brillanti abitato da donne, farfalle, fiori e uccelli.《Cosa ci rende felici davvero?》: quanto spesso ce lo chiediamo? Baya avrebbe di certo risposto “dipingere”, ma cos’è, invece, che rende felici noi? Cos’è in grado di farci stare così bene da farci dimenticare di tutto? Sin da giovanissima, Baya Mahieddine ispirò pittori quali Picasso e Matisse. Adottata da Marguerite Camina Benhoura, che si prese carico della sua educazione, fu presto scoperta dal mercante d’arte Maeght e apprezzata da Breton. Alcune sue opere furono incluse nell’Exposition Internationale du Surréalisme alla Galerie Maeght di #Parigi già nel 1947..

Baya was adopted in 1942 by a French intellectual, Marguerite Camina Benhoura, who provided her with paintingmaterials, and an education.
